Our Dinosaur Art

This week, we did some dinosaur art. First, we practiced drawing pictures of dinosaurs on scrap paper. We chose one that we really liked and drew it bigger on our white paper. Then, we added a horizon line. We used black crayon to go around the lines and then used two colours to do the background. Lastly, we used crayon to colour our dinosaurs. Once that was done we used dye to finish it all off! Don't they look great?

Planetarium

Our Trip to the Planetarium on PhotoPeach

Today, we visited the Planetarium at One Tree Hill. We had lots of fun and learnt heaps about the sun, the moon and the earth. First, we watched a video about a dog who went in a rocket to explore space. Then we spent some time looking at the exhibitions. Finally, we went into a classroom where we got to see how the earth orbits the sun and how the moon orbits the earth. Our favourite bit was when the lady showed us a clip of the some men walking on the moon!

Crazy Hat Day

On Friday, we had a mufti and crazy hat day to raise money for the Guide Dog Foundation. We made our very own crazy hats the day before using black paper, paint and glitter. Some people wore these while others brought their own hats that they made at home. Sara and Panataua won prizes for the best hats. They both won a cookie and got to go up on stage at assembly to show off their creations. Well done guys!

Supporting Christchurch Red and Black Day

On Friday 4th March, Hillpark School took part in a 'Red and Black Day' to support the people of Christchurch. We all brought a gold coin donation to school. During the day we used our black and yellow thinking hats to talk about all of the bad and good things that happened because of the earthquake. We realised that even though lots of people lost there lives, people were doing all that they could to help each other.
